Meet the Artist: Paula DeMattia

Capturing birds, people and animals in a variety of mediums.

Painter and drawer, Paula DeMattia lives in Chesterland, Ohio. Paula started sketching when she was seven years old, learning through How to Draw books. She completed an Art Instruction School program in Middle School and took drawing and ceramic classes throughout High School. Paula received a Bachelor's Degree in Art from Malone University where she picked up painting, fell in love with oils, and further developed her drawing skills. Paula also attended more ceramic classes in college. While at Malone University, she showed her art in one of the galleries and participated in a juried show. She was in the 2021 Juried Art Show at Fairmount Art Center. Paula exhibited at a booth at Water's Edge Art Festival from 2016-2019 and a booth at the Willoughby Artfest in 2021. She started painting and drawing friends' and family members' pets, then moved on to drawing and painting other animals. She has had a few commissions to draw people as well. Paula's favorite subject is birds. She paints with oils and acrylic and draws with graphite, charcoal, and color pencil.
