Paula DeMattia

Paula DeMattia.JPG

Paula DeMattia loves to paint and draw. She started sketching when she was young with How-to-Draw books. In middle school, Paula took an Art Instruction School course, took drawing and ceramic classes in high school, and then got her Bachelor's Degree in Art at Malone University. This is where Paula picked up painting, fell in love with oils, and developed her drawing skills. At Malone University, she showed her art in one of the galleries and was in a juried show. She also was in the 2021 and 2022 juried art shows at Fairmount Art Center. Paula had a booth at Water's Edge Art Festival from 2016-2019 and a booth at the Willoughby Artfest in 2021. She started painting and drawing friends’ and family members' pets, then moved on to drawing and painting other animals. She had a few commissions to draw people as well. Paula's favorite subject is birds.

She paints with oils and acrylic and draws with graphite, charcoal, and colored pencil.

Before she creates art, Paula likes to do a poll to see what others think she should paint or draw next. She takes the suggestions and looks for several reference pictures so she can make the drawing or painting her own. While Paula does this, she decides if the reference picture should be a drawing or painting and what “canvas” should she use. Paula loves to listen to music while she works on her drawings and paintings from sketching all the way to the fine details.
