Virtual Geauga Video Contest, in April. Geauga County is rich in color, texture, creativity, talent and character. We want to see it captured on a short video by a Geauga County resident! We judge videos on originality, creativity and artistic content. Contestants’ videos will be posted on our website. Prizes are awarded to the winners in each category.
Ovations in May, celebrates the talents of local students in high school musicals. This annual “Academy Awards” type event is held on stage at the Geauga Theater on Chardon’s charming square.
This event is Geauga's answer to the Academy Awards. Talented young people from each of the schools doing a Spring musical will gather at this ceremony to perform for each other and for the community and to find out who is the best of the best. Each school's performance is videotaped and the CDs are sent to a panel of professional actors who judge each category in a rigorous and unbiased manner. If a school or an individual wins an award, they can be assured that they really deserved it.
Besides awards for tech support, dancing, makeup and hair design, and pit band, there is one special award for the person who best turns potential disaster into a positive. The evening ends with announcements of best male and female vocalist and finally the best of show which is the one everyone is waiting for.
The public is welcome to come and watch the evening's entertainment and get carried away by the energy of so many young people in one place enjoying each other's performances. One of the best parts of the evening is that they not only cheer for their own school when a award is earned, but they applaud the talent of everyone.
